We are past the first "heartworm day" of 2023.This time we were able to take 6 Noah's Animal Shelter Foundation protégés to see cardiologist and heartworm specialist Dr Dalma Peterfia. Actually, 10 dogs who have tested positive for the rapid test and are therefore waiting for cardiological check-ups, cardiac ultrasound scans and tests to confirm the presence of infection. In such cases, the order of priority is decided by if a family wants to adopt the dog. Based on this, we have selected the delinquents tested today 🥰 (above, from left to right)
Mátka's condition is very serious, her pulmonary artery is brutally full of adult shaped worms, cardiological abnormalities are already showing. He will first start taking heart medication and will begin his drug treatment, the next step of therapy is still under discussion
Yellow is in even more trouble. She needs a heartworm removal operation about immediately, but as the waiting list is very long and the operation is very expensive, we are starting her on alternative medication with heart drug support.
Moe is in the best position of all the bulldogs we have tested today, even though he is already stage 2.
First in addition to having a lot of heartworms, he also has a moderate to severe congenital cardiopathy. This is a hereditary disease and First has already given birth as far as the eye can see. This is how breeders produce sick dogs 😡
Pico and Fuvola are stage 1 of the Bernese pair. They will be started on doxy-moxy protocol.
Currently there are more than 60 heartworm infected dogs in the care of NOÉ. All of them will undergo a full examination and will receive a personalised treatment protocol.
