Dog log: 04. 09. – 22. 08. 2011.
2011.09.09.

Many different things happened in the last period. There was an unbearable heat at the end of the summer and our dog, Füstös, realised the idea of miracle. But there is only one important thing in the Shelter: 18th September, Sunday, Aid Concert again for the inhabitants of Noah Animal Shelter. It is only about them and you, dear sponsors, who can sponsor our animals while having a really good time.

Our new dog is Kristály (Crystal). He is a ‘forgotten’ dog whom family escaped from eviction and they left him in the empty flat. He must have been put on chains as a puppy because the chain totally grew into his neck. He had to be operated to get rid of the chain.

Our cat rescue team had to come to a painful decision: 21st August, 2011: Cat Stop was announced.
Although we wanted to postpone the decision as long as we could, but finally, it seemed to be impossible:
Noah Cat rescue team announces Cat Stop from now on.

We are so sorry but we cannot fulfil any more requests for help since the number of our cats has doubled unawares. It means that instead of the usual number of 60 we have to take care of more than 120 cats. Our 34 temporary owners take care of those who wait for a permanent owner but at the moment they bring many illnesses to their own animals with the new kittens in spite of careful separation. Since it is impossible to bring a cat without vaccination to Noah, those that are found or thrown in can be placed at a temporary owner. But it is quite risky concerning their pets and the new ones as well.

Until we cannot organise the situation, we kindly ask everybody to find a kitten in case he/she is able to find a place for it as well. For a certain time (hopefully not for long) we have to say ’no’ to this kind of request. Of course we can help in advertising or finding an owner.

Since we have never said ’no’ to a handicapped animal and we have no chance to say ’no’ when a parcel is left somewhere, it is possible that the number of cats will increase in spite of cat stop.
How can you help to solve this situation as soon as possible?
It is very simple: the more cats find a permanent owner the sooner we can end the ban. Share, advertise, try to find a possible owner for the cats! Unfortunately, that is the only way to solve the present situation since the quick growth of the number is due to the lack of adopters.
Please, try to understand the situation and try to help in order to be able to help again.
Thank you for understanding us, as soon as the situation comes normal, we will end the Cat Stop
Regards,
Noah Cat rescue.

Nowadays, we often mention the word: miracle. Fortunately, there have been several miracles in the Shelter recently. Füstös does not have to be introduced. His willingness and love for life are remarkable. He has got a real group of fans and his struggle is outstanding.
Füstös reached the impossible within two months: he walks on four legs. He is a little bit unstable and gets tired easily, but he walks. Walks?! He runs, jogs and gallops. Thank you Meggyes, it could not be so successful without you!
But instead of words, here is the evidence:

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A FOSTER FAMILY FOR FRIGYES!
Frigyes is a 5-6 year-old, pictured, medium German Shepherd-type male dog. He was run down by a car in July 2011, next to Dragon (Sárkány) Centre. One of his front legs had to be operated immediately and an implant was built in his leg. His other front leg was also hurt and needed treatment, but fortunately it was only a wound on its surface.
Unfortunately, he had to be operated again because a week after the first operation one of the screws torn out from his leg, it caused terrible pain and his leg started to curve in an extraordinary way.
During the second operation it was fixed again but a week later everything repeated, but now four screws torn out from the bone in spite of the fact that Frigyes is a perfect patient: he does not jump, run or is not aggressive with other dogs and during walking – since he is absolutely house-trained – he walks calmly and slowly, being tolerant to his leg. During the second operation, the bone broken in small pieces could have been fixed only with an outside fixing which he has to use for at least 2 or 3 more months.
Outside fixing means more than one wire drilled through the bone fixed on both sides of the leg.
First, Frigyes was not a simple character: he was fighting during the treatment and tried to bite but then it turned out that the funnel was so stressful for him. Taking it off solved the problem.
Unfortunately, he has to wear the funnel again due to the outside fixing in order to avoid more problems with the wound but finally, he got used to it and stopped fighting.
He is not an “everybody-is-my-friend” type, he chooses some of us to be friendly with but he is neutral with strangers or indicates with a grumble: “no friend acceptance”. All in all, his trust has to be deserved.
We would like to find a temporary owner for him during recovering, preferably in Budapest so going to control examinations will not mean a problem. It would also be preferable to find a house without stairs or with a lift, since using stairs means a problem for him.

More info on Frigyes can be found HERE!

We visited an orthopaedic specialist with Gumo, the news is both good and bad. Bad news is that the deformed leg of Gumo cannot be saved, it will have to be amputated. This operation can be made from the age of 3 months but it would be better to wait until the age of 4-5 months, according to the specialist. Unfortunately, it was suspected because that leg does not work at all.

But the good news is…his other front leg, which is curved is absolutely healthy. It looks curved because of the extraordinary loading and it will become normal without any help after the amputation.
Gumo lives the everyday life of puppies: he plays, runs, plays with balls and ignores absolutely his handicap since it is normal for him.
Thank you for all the support. There is nothing to worry about his health since we have dozens of three-legged dogs living their happy lives.

ANOTHER PARCEL AT THE GATE
We opened the Shelter on Sunday morning as usual. At that time we thought it would be an ordinary day (which is quite rare here), but while we were doing our jobs, a puppy was left on a leash at the door. There was nobody around it, only the little dog on a rope.
We gave the name Presszó for him. We could only cross our fingers for him to fight against the potential puppy-diseases, since he was in danger at the shelter without any immunisation.

Fortunately, Presszó, the giant baby was so fortunate that a kind family fell in love with him within a couple of days and hopefully happy ending is guaranteed.
At Halásztelek some animal-fans discovered eight several months old puppies and their frightened and scared mother. The babies had already been spat by the flies and their mother could hardly feed them since she did not have anything to eat.

Thanks to our temporary owner the whole family became the protegees of Noah. The biggest surprise was when it turned out that there were two mothers for the eight puppies. So we became richer with ten dogs.

We said goodbye to one of our ’sludge-dogs’. We saved Pamacs from Devecser after the catastrophe of red mud. Since then he lived with Ari, the protector of pooches, the sad news arrived from her. “This afternoon, Devecseri Pamacs from the red mud, my giant bear pooch passed away. Rest in peace my dear, Pamacs over the Rainbow Bridge. You were an especially intelligent pooch. Take care, my dear.”

Do you remember our dog, Akác, who was stabbed by homeless people? Fortunately, he recovered totally both physically and emotionally. Moreover, he has had an owner for a while. We received some pictures from his owner, Edina.
