Dog log 01.08-21.08.2011
2011.08.23.

Many things happened in the last couple of weeks. A little bit rainy and cool August brought smile and tears as well. There is a quite active period behind us since besides open Saturdays we participated in different events almost every weekend, moreover, we represented ourselves on Sziget festival as well.

Let’s start: it seems that puppy and kitten period does not want to stop this year. There are a lot of young animals in the shelter although we keep emphasising that we have not got enough places to keep, separate and educate them safely. Many thanks for our temporary owners because they make it possible to give a chance to one animal or a whole family left outside a door, in a forest or among the dust…
Some of them, non-exhausted:

Dedós (Childish) family:

Gumicukor (Gelly) Family

Imani

Jaffar

Jellem

Jóska

... and the others

It is difficult to explain why we fall in love one of the dogs. Of course we love all of them very much but it is no use denying that there are some favourites. For me it was Jávor, the wonderful Malamute. Unfortunately, I met him only once or twice and he was not in a condition to be able to return my enthusiasm but I feel he knew he was not alone and many of us loved him, thought of him and supported him. Unfortunately, he could not make it...

Jávor became paralyzed after a spinal cord attack and he collapsed mentally. The person whom he was loyal and honest to did not want to pay for his honorable death but this person threw out the totally paralyzed dog on a side of a field. The dog was attacked and bitten, his wounds were split by flies and worms started to eat him. Someone found him and asked for help. This dog didn't make it either...

I am not able to tell my emotions in a polite way.
He didn't make it…

Fortunately, we have good news as well. We cannot forget Pukli since the whole Noah Family crossed their fingers for him. He is the one tiny animal who was thrown to us with his sibling through the fence one night. The guard dogs torn the sibling and this little dog was hurt, his spine broke. But, as we reported before, Pukli was operated and got a temporary owner. Since then the temporary owner’s signature is dry on the adoption contract.
According to the latest news, he feels fine, gets on well the three cats and the shrewd old family dog, Erik. He is getting better, walks a lot and would like to play but it is forbidden to avoid wounds. He is a very good kid, practices peeing on a nappy and he is quite good in it…

Unfortunately, Jet became very ill. He is one of our oldest inhabitants here. He has not got a simple life besides living in a shelter for over eight years. First, he started to look for a permanent owner with many drawbacks: he has a quite difficult character and – to be honest – he is not the most beautiful dog. Due to an unfortunate accident, one of his first legs had to be amputed, moreover he has got serious liver problems so he is on a special liver diet.

Despite living in a shelter and having serious health problems he is lucky because one on our volunteers, Anikó has been taking care of him for many years. Jet can think that he has got an owner although he does not live with her.

As soon as we realised that Jet cannot stand up we ran to the vet with him. He had high fever and he was very weak. His blood test was terrible, the high leucocyte count referred to a serious inflammation in his body. The data of liver was not a surprise as we know that Jet has liver problems, but it caused some worry that compared to the controll examination a couple of month before the results were worse.

Fortunately, love and medicines were effective: Jet recovered soon and moved back to the shelter to the great happiness of Meki who was quite miserable without his kennel-pal.

Pocak, our dog was adopted by Orsi about a year ago. By accident, they met the girl who had saved Pocak many years ago. So their dream came true and they found out some things about the past of Pocak. I know about myself that I am absolutely happy with my adopted adult dog but I would do anything if I knew something about his childhood.
Orsi sent us her feelings and their meeting:

„We understood from Heni that they saved Pocak from terrible circumstances. He was kept under a bread box, there were bricks on top of the box, the dog could not move under it. A child received it as a „toy” and when he was not playing with it, they put it on its place, in the box. After he was saved, the dog was running and playing for three days because he was so happy with his freedom.”

Pocak is laughing

Regards,

Orsi
Noah comment: Orsi and her family is taking care of Crowley as a temporary owner. Crowley has totally recovered from his operation. And Orsi made a perfect, dream dog from Crowley who is now looking for a dream owner!

It is not a question any more: Noah is a wonderful place! Look, there is a miracle almost every day, sometimes two. And this is true!

There is Füstüs, everybody’s Füsti. He started as a seal-dog, then he became a three-legged dog and finally, a swimming champion. And we know that anybody can talk about a miracle, so we wrote down everything, look at that:

The beginning:

Since then Füstös surprises us with one of his new talent every day. We are astonished and can hardly follow his development. He can walk on his right back leg and the left back leg works as well although only while swimming!

The first miracle – Füsti walks confidently on his left back leg:

And the next one, the left leg works in the water!

And Füsti lives his happy weekdays as well. There is no happier dog around the world! He participates in an acupuncture treatment and involved in home hydrotherapy.
Thanks for everyone who helps financially or in any other way with the recovery of Füstös.
And since one miracle is not a miracle or it can be an accident as well, here is the next one, the story of Drill, the Cane Corso lady. She was left in front of the Tököl Shelter with a tiny little health problem. She was almost unable to walk…

According to the vet examination it turned out that she has a serious spine hernia affecting several neck vertebraes. The spinal cord is narrowed to its fifth. The only solution is the immediate operation and a miracle is also needed since the operation should have been done a year ago, now she might have nerve problems as well where the recovery is a real miracle. Without the operation she might be paralyzed in all her four legs.
Since then, the operation is over but the situation was more serious than the doctors thought. But thanks to doctor Zsoldos and Drill the light at the end of the tunnel can be seen in a very short time after the operation

Accidents always have a lot of victims. If we hear the word ’train’, then it is a very serious problem, since a dog has no chance to survive if it is run down by a train. But Trainer survived a train accident, although his head was terrible hit so he suffered from a serious concussion. He started to recover but very slowly. His first blindness seems to disappear and he has already started to communicate. But it is known that a brain trauma takes a long time to recover. It is not a problem, we have time.

We have problems with stork nutrition since he does not like all kinds of fish. He prefers smaller fish: carp, bream, common bleak and of course trout. Believe it or not, getting small fish is always very difficult. It would not be a problem if we wanted to feed him with e.g. shark or some exotic fish, but these small fish is almost impossible to buy. Is there an enthusisastic fisherman Angel who could bring us some? It is perfect in frozen form as well. Thank you very much in the name of a stork with good appeatite.

Those who are regular visitor of either out webpage or the shelter are aware of the fact that one of our horses, Tündér Palkó has astmathic problems. The illness is uncureable but the adequate circumstances and medicines make it possible to keep the illness on an adequate level.

Andi, from Zakusza farm helped Tündér Palko. Of course it was not for free because the farm is full as well with astmathic, cripple and lame horses. So the deal was to send one and get one.

So finally we said a sorrow good-bye to Tündér Palkó and we welcomed Amalka who is loved by everybody since she is a very kind, communicative and man-loving mule.

Thanks everything for Rozi, sorry Tranccs and have a nice breathing Tündér Palkó!

We lost our old friend, Nagymuki. His status became terrible in a very short time. His lungs were full of water and we could not reach the vet. He was absolutely not an easy dog. He was dangerous to both men and animals. But he was „the puppy of our dog” so we were responsible for him and loved him. We accepted him as he was, he was Nagymuki, more than a biting dog but almost a ’theory’. We will never say to anyone any more: „if you do not behave well you will go to Nagymuki”.
Take care over the Rainbow bridge. Hopefully, your agressive spirit will calm down there and you will experience how wonderful it is to live, play and have fun with others.

And Bonifác has gone as well. Can we say unexpectedly? No, I do not think so…I think his heart sank: how can he survive that he was hurt, he became blind and sent from home because he is helpless when he is ill and blind. We will never forget you!

We have received another helpless puppy recently. Gumo is a mixed, six-week male dog who was born on Csongrád private shelter. During or after birth one of his front legs hangs and does not work. This leg must be amputated unfortunately, in the near future. But the bigger problem is that the other front leg does not work well either: it is curved and cannot hold the present weigh of Gumó. Hopefully this can be corrected later. We will know more after the examination on Monday. Anyway, Gumó is joyful, playful and bites shoes as other healthy puppies. We have to keep our fingers crossed for him!

Our dog, Március was adopted by an elderly couple. They loved him but life and their family stepped in. The couple was taken to an old people’s home where they could not take Március with them so the dog arrived back to the shelter.
It seems that he became lucky because he could move into a new family. An old lady fell in love with him. Hopefully, he found his final home. It is almost impossible to give an elderly dog for adoption so it is excellent that Március succeeded for the second time. He knows something quite well.
