How can I be a volunteer, how can I help the residents of Noé?
2011.03.28.

Who can be a volunteer?

Any adult person, who is a committed animal friend and can and wants to dedicate some time to the help of the animals, and is not afraid of dirty work can visit the animal shelter as a volunteer at his/her own responsibility. Volunteers visit the animal shelter without any financial compensation to give the possible physical and mental help to the animals that live in the shelter. The volunteer is not obligated to visit the shelter regularly, however it is easier and safer to work if you know the residents and follow the changes up-to-date. If you can dedicate 2-3 hours on weekends with some regularity you can actively help the workers out there, and your work will be honoured with the smiles of almost 900 happy animals.

What does a volunteer do?

It is hard to define. 900 animals give a lot of work to the caretakers, including the change of water, feeding, cooking, cleaning, may that be leaves or dog poop, the cat house or the treatment room or the bathing of a newcomer. Moreover part of the residents are scared and do not understand the situation, calming them, getting them used to people and walking them is also very important. Many volunteers function as temporary adopters as well this means that they give temporary home to cubs or animals that require special care until they are adopted permanently.

So to conclude, may you come any time, be prepared there will be a lot of work to do and may you put on anything in the morning you will be dirty from top to bottom, therefore it is useful to have playsuit and rubber boots (if the weather requires) for these occasions.

Despite this, or therefore working outside can be quite fun indeed. If you do not like excursions, you do not exercise enough even though you should and you spend less time in fresh air than you should, this job is for you .

How can I get to the Animal Shelter?

By car: from Örs vézer tere through Jászberényi-Pesti-Péceli street, before Pécel you have to turn right to Korsó street. Also on the new part of M0 ring you have to take Pécel exit towards Budapest. After leaving the Budapest sign the first street is Korsó street. It is easy to recognise since there is a small food shop on the corner and a stone cross as well. The dirt road leads up – keeping to the left – to the gate of the Animal Shelter. Just be on the safe side, use GPS or route planner . The direct address is 17th district, the end of Csordakút street.

Public transport (BKV): take 169E bus from Örs vezér tere and get off about a half-an-hour later at Ebergény utca stop. You may ask the bus driver to help you. Then you have to go up either on Ebergény street or a bit further on Korsó street, following the dirt road keeping to the left, about a 6-8 minute walk leads to the shelter.

How can I help if I cannot go out?

Many injured animals arrive to the Animal Shelter, their care and surgeries usually cost a lot, and moreover the feeding of 900 animals a day is a serious expense every day so money contribution comes useful any time, may that be 100 or 1000 HUF. You can support the animals virtually as well, choose your favourite on the website of Noé and support his/her daily care with a defined amount. Organise fundraising for material donations and send those into the shelter through friends.

Follow Noé’s Wall of Facebook (www.facebook.com/noeallatotthon),and if you can help (may that be temporary adoption, food transport or the transport of an injured animal to Budapest) react.

The biggest help is the donation of the 1% of your tax, as the majority of the maintenance costs can be covered from this.

Moreover Noé Támogató Klub (Noé Support Club) or T-Klub (S-Club) was established, you can be a member if you support the mission with at least 1000 HUF per month. The Support Club of Noé Animal Shelter was created by animal lover volunteers in order to provide fixed monthly income for the animal shelter that the foundation can rely on every month.

If Noé organises a fundraising for a specific goal, that will be published on the websites and the Facebook Wall and also I (Kennel Bojz & Girlz)will try to communicate particularly these missions of great importance.

Further important information

Opening hours of the shelter: Monday to Saturday: 9.30-15.30, Sunday: 10.00-14.00

You can help Minimenhely (Mini Shelter) project of NOÉ and the special breed rescue programs only on Saturdays when they have open day. Except the special departments you have all of the opening hours at your disposal to help. If you come out, find a volunteer and ask what you can do – especially if you are new. It may happen that a somewhat aggressive animal is brought to the shelter so always ask for information before entering a kennel or any area, whether it is safe, and enter anywhere only if a person who works there approved of that. If you work at the kennels, always keep the dogs where they are supposed to be, because some encounters might have scary consequences. So if you open a door close it carefully behind you because that is a passage only for you not for the dogs. Do not face George the lama, because he spits and do not get behind the other ungulates, because they kick:)

If you bring some food along we are very happy, may that be any little amount. From Monday to Friday feeding time is at 14.00 so if you would like to take dogs for a walk please come much earlier, afterwards the residents are having a siesta.
